Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine.
While initially this style of yoga can seem quite boring, passive, or soft, yin practice can be quite challenging due to the long duration of the poses. Yin yoga is a slow, passive, meditative style where floor-based poses are held for long durations (3-5+ minutes) to target deep connective tissues (fascia, ligaments, joints) rather than muscles, promoting flexibility, stillness, and relaxation by working with gravity and allowing the body to surrender.
